HOW "NOT" TO PAINT

I was so happy with the progress of this painting till this vimpire woman shows up. I hate her. She is ugly, deformed, disproportionate... even stinks!
I first painted the background and it was ok, then I painted the blond guy and I felt like Michelangelo and then... I ruined the whole thing with her!
Compare with the first study. It was much better.
Now, I will put it aside and just later try to fix Mrs. Dracula up.
Kids, do not paint like tha
t!

SATYRICON

I'm working in this small painting now, a scene of Fellini's Satyricon. Try to reach the beauty of Giuseppe Rotunno's photography will be such a challenge.

ONE PROCESS

I just finished this painting and thought about showing the whole process since the oxidation till the final touches. What you think? I would prefer looser strokes but I like it. It took me four hours and the dimentions are 20X30cm, oil on canvas.

PAPER HAT

I had been on vacation, travelling, resting, making friends, having fun and studing but no, I'm not one of those who think the new year starts just after carnival, like many brazilians do. I've been working on some paintings, nothing so elaborate, and will start to post them here. I hope you like them and would love to hear your opinions.

"THAT IS NOTHING MORE TRULY ARTISTIC THAN TO LOVE PEOPLE"

Mixed Technique on paper 36X24cm

I love Van Gogh... who doesn't? For me, more than a great artist (I don't like to use the term "genius" because I don't believe talent is a gift but the result of hard work) he is an example of persistence. He once said: "If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced". What is done in love is done well!
I pay homage to him in the painting above, my version of "Memory of the Garden of Etten", what gave me great pleasure to paint.

THE "STUDIO"

Well, I know you can not call it a "studio" but that's where I work.
Most people are curious about where artists produce, unfortunately my place is not a match for the idea of a studio full of naked models, parties, interesting people... the avant-garde stereotype! To be honest it's just a corner where I do the oil on canvas work. Hard work! To draw I use my room's desk. I'm doing the arrangements to move to a real studio but until this happen I will continue to have a great time here. Have a seat!

I'm working in this painting now. I drew on cavas using charcoal and now I'm oxidating before I start with colors. I'm travelling next week, so it won't be finished so soon.

ISPIRED BY NIKI DE SAINT PHALLE

Mixed Technique 29X21 cm

This one was inspired by the French painter, sculptor and film maker Niki de Saint Phalle.
For me, is very usual when I study a painter do some works trying to capture its spirit.

Back from the beach to the easel!
Practicing I painted inspired by Stephen Magsig as you can see below. He has painted Detroit for more than 20 years and enjoy painting the "patina of life" as he use to say. Visit his blog at http://myartspage.blogspot.com/. It is worth it!

FLORES / FLOWERS

I'm so bad with titles...

This is an quite small old one, but as soon as I want to be accepted on Daily Painters Art Gallery I must post my work regularly.

óleo sobre tela (oil on canvas) 15X10cm

I'm working on a painting about Paranapiacaba, but I think I will only be able to post it next year because I'm going to the beach!

GARRAFA AZUL / BLUE BOTTLE

This is a watercolor sketch of a oil painting I want to do. I like the colors, composition and... only this. I did in a few ninutes and I'm decided not to think about it, this is only an exercise to practice. After all, what the importance of a blue bottle for the world? I tell this because for me as important as the technique of an artist is what he chooses as subject, but for now I will just put this questions aside for a while.
The "not brazilians" may not recognize one of the fruit, it's a carambola, it's a delicious tropical fruit and when you cut it, the slices have the shape of a star.
PS - Thanks Mary Sheehan Winn for your encouragement and attention, you know how important is to have your work saw.

While on vacation I have dedicated quite a good time sketching, what is a great pleasure until my theatre work start over next year. I met by chance a nice young artist called Ronan and he indicated me a fine oil painting teacher. I set things about and will start classes first thursday, 2008. I'm pretty excited. I shoul have done this a long ago!
